About Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County
Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County transforms lives and our county by uniting all around the cause of decent, affordable housing for everyone.
Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County was founded in 1997 by Ron Hollis and the St. Charles Rotary Club and 24 other founding sponsors. HFHSCC is an independent local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, governed by a volunteer board of directors from St. Charles County. It is a non-profit ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to constructing decent, affordable homes in St. Charles County in partnership with hard-working, low-income families.
By requiring the payment of a 30-year interest-free mortgage and 350 “sweat equity hours,” Habitat For Humanity offers families a “hand-up” rather than a “hand-out!”
Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County is committed to creating home ownership opportunities for working families. Since its inception in 1996, Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County has built 69 homes in Wentzville, O’Fallon, St. Charles, and Portage Des Sioux. These homes were built in partnership with qualifying St. Charles County families of diverse backgrounds.
Habitat families work in local manufacturing, retail, health and other service industries, earning between 30% – 60% of the median income.
Habitat for Humanity utilizes the financial and human resources of area churches, businesses, foundations, individuals, civic organizations and qualified, low-income families to advance the mission of home ownership.
Businesses and other organizations benefit from involving their employees, customers or members in a great team building exercise. Churches and other religious institutions benefit from involving their congregations and allowing them to “put feet to their faith,” giving a hand-up to less fortunate working families, providing affordable home ownership opportunities, and eliminating substandard housing from our community.
